Road Repaving Phases

Roads Assessment

Our road project is still scheduled for July 2023. However, several members have not paid and this puts our project timing in jeopardy. If you have not yet paid your assessment, please do immediately. Your non-payment of dues may result in a delay which may require a greater assessment for everyone.

Our Roads

The current plan is for our roads to be resurfaced late June early July 2023. For those of you who did not attend the meeting, we have chosen Superior Asphalt Inc. out of Grand Rapids. Assessments will be mailed out by the end of February. Additionally it was determined that the assessment will be by lot as our covenant states it should be. We know this is a big expense but something we must do to keep our roads in good working order. Our quote with Superior is very competitive, in fact it is almost exactly the same as what we were quoted back in 2019. As new information becomes available we will update this page.

 Park Security

As mentioned in the news letter – this summer we had trouble with people vandalizing throwing litter and harassing the neighbors on either side of the park. As a result we began locking the park from dawn to dusk manually until we could have an electronic lock installed – that is being done now as of late November- the mechanical portion is there but the electronic portion is in process – once it is installed the park will be open from dusk until dawn as before but it will be automatic – eventually all members will have a card key to allow them access 24/7 – thank you for your patience.

The park now has a garbage can and a reminder to use it

In an effort to encourage visitors to clean up after themselves we have installed a garbage can and a sign reminding everyone to please KEEP THIS PARK CLEAN.

Interlaken Park CLOSED after duskWHY?

We have had a large increase in people using the park during these unusual times.

As you know this park is paid for and is the property of the members of the Interlaken Association, and for many years we have opened our park to all who wish to use it.

Unfortunately – there has been repeated vandalism of our park. Garbage and dog droppings are often left for us to clean up. Recently, some visitors have been disruptive and have started verbally assaulting the park’s neighbors.

For these reasons you may find this PARK CLOSED after dusk and very early in the morning. This is being manually locked and unlocked currently. We hope to add an automatic locking system by the end of November.

Road Assessment Planning

The board and membership are firmly committed to keeping our roads in good order. It was unanimous at our 2019 annual meeting that the membership would prefer to be assessed for roads when the need arises rather than assessing yearly. In an effort to allow association member to plan properly the board went ahead and obtained a budgetary number for milling and applying an inch of asphalt to our roads. API of Muskegon examined our roads and they believe our roads will require this maintenance prior to 2024. They provided a quote of approximately $300,000. Although this number could vary dramatically with the price of oil, it is a good starting point. With inflation our target number is $350,000. Based on this we would like each homeowner to plan to be assessed for between $5000 and $6000 somewhere in the 2023-2024-time frame. We hope this helps and meets member expectations and helps you better plan for the future.
